Next step.......

So our stay at sunset hotel has come to end..we have enjoyed a boat trip to the source of the Nile and on to lake Victoria where we discovered a small shop on a small island by the source of the Nile! Where of course, we couldn't resist treating ourselves to a pair of flip flops!
We saw our first bit of ugandan rain which was extremely warm and very different to British rain!
Today we leave jinja to make our way to namutumba where our adventure will begin! We are both extremely excited but also nervous as we have no idea what to expect!
This could be our last blog for now as we are not sure whether we will internet or not but for now here's a few pictures if our boat trip to keep you going!

  1. The latest from Megan in Kisiki from an email that she sent
'serious teaching' has started, serious meaning it's so laid back it's horizontal. Lessons are meant to start at
7:40am but i found myself waiting outside until 8:10am while the classroom was being swept, i am happy to say it was not my class as my class would be on time! i am yet to start teaching currently sitting in english lessons and being a kind of assistant/dictionary for the teachers. Really enjoying it and can't wait to get started properly!!
Sophie has started going to the health centre full time and i do find myself feeling a bit lonely because we've been in each others pockets for so long now! She is yet to see a birth but has done full on you know where examinations.. if that's not experience i don't know what is!?
On friday the 8th we had our first Kisiki assembly it is held under what they call the Big Green Tent which is a massive tree on the school field, the whole school sits down and the teachers are all sat at the front on chairs, we count as teachers! Also in the Big Green Tent a hell of a lot of fruit bats had decided it should be their new home, it was pretty risky. We had to stand up and be introduced to the whole school, very daunting but we seemed to be welcomed! That night was also the first night sophie and i went into the town of namutumba alone! We had an extremely successful shop and we are getting to know some of the local shop keepers now! We also ate our first ever Ugandan avocado, they are massssivvvee! And so so sos os osooo tasty!
On the 9th we did all our washing and completely degutted our house, including sweeping the carpet with the amazing brush it's like sticks tied together (but so effective!) we also mopped all the floors and our washing skills are immense! WHO NEEDS MACHINES! (i joke.) We got taught how to make chapatis buy our neighbour Rachael she also went on to cook us supper!
On the 10th (sunday) we had a very lazy day, as we had done all the housework on saturday we did literally nothing all day. Ate more avocados, ate mango, made more chapatis... slept... that was it really... haha!
On the 11th it was the first day of schoool! Sophie and i sat in Annet's english class it was our first experience of an Ugandan lesson, very different. We also came up with the idea of introducing the reading challenge to Kisiki college. The reading challenge is a programme we have at home to help increase confidence in young readers, we have written up a basic plan now and the school are going to start a pilot run soon!! We cooked for our neighbours aswell preparing pork and carrot, sweet potato and normal chips for them! They had never had carrot chips and they really enjoyed them!!
We also had our first experience with frogs in the shower! Now it is normal!
Yesterday, Soph went to the health centre and i spent time with Rita in her class and also annet's i have also started helping to mark work, like a proper teacher! I feel very professional! Made some good friends in the staff room, one teacher se-enjoee (sounds something like that) has given me and sophie 3 tasks, we have to use a pit latrine, wear a gomas (traditional ugandan clothing - google it) and wash in a basin... will be very interesting. Also it was pancake day so we made lots of pancakes for everyone!! And Rachael and Annet prepared supper which was a huge fish and potatoes and fresh passion fruit, pineapple and watermelon juice! Very tasty.
Today i sat in a class with james the deputy head, i helped a blind boy to do his work, which was extremely hard work because he struggled to understand what i was saying, that seems to be a problem even though we have got used to talking veeerrryy slowly and clearly! I also helped annet who is doing a university course alongside teaching type up some coursework because she was sooo impressed with how fast we can type! Tomorrow i haven't got much planned though i will probably be sitting in more classes and i hope to find out what class i'll be teaching!
