Sophie's Bio

Name: Sophie Helena Ruth Gauntlett
Date of Birth: 8th October 1993
Place of Birth: Surrey
Current location: Ross-on-Wye
Current occupation: Care Assistant, Brockhampton Court Nursing Home

I currently live with my parents, little sister and much loved puppy dog Milly, in Ross-on-wye, who are extremely supportive of my choices and are always there for me. Over the last few years I have been searching for what I want to do in the future. I have gone from Primary school teaching to Sociology and now to where I truly believe my heart lies which is in Midwifery. Even though I have tried to fight this as it runs in generations of my family to work as a nurse I could not fight the fact anymore that this was what I truly wanted to do. So here I finally am starting the journey to my future in Midwifery, which I am sure my mother is very relieved to hear after many open days to numerous universities for all sorts of courses! After suffering from tonsillitis all through my last year at college finishing my A-levels  and after turning down my offers to do sociology I have decided to take a gap year. This seemed like a great opportunity to recuporate, get experience and take an adventure! So when me and Megan both decided to take a gap year we thought we'd seize the opportunity to start our adventure together!

Megan's Bio

Name: Megan Louise Humby
Date of Birth: 19th May 1994
Place of Birth: Luton
Current Location: Ross on Wye
Current Occupation: Waitress

I currently live with my parents, younger sister and pet dog just outside of Ross on Wye.
Whilst doing my A levels at John Kyrle Sixth Form I was always unsure of where I wanted to go after. After many hours in my head of year's office debating different courses, I did apply for teaching, however this 'phase' didn't last long and come exam time, I had decided I did not want to go directly into teaching. Right now, i'm unsure if I want to do teaching at all!
Due to the rise in tuition fees and no responsibilities holding me back a gap year seemed perfect. Fortunately, my best friend Sophie was in a similar position, so we decided to go on this adventure together!

Two dreams, two wrong choices, creates one gap year

This is Me (Megan) and Sophie.

When this photo was taken, we were studying at John Kyrle Sixth Form doing our last year of A-levels. Now it is November 2012 and Sixth Form is long gone, many friends have gone to uni and left us in our home town. We decided just before exams that we were not going ahead with our uni choices, and instead going on an adventure of our own!

Sophie and I have attended John Kyrle for 7 years although that has now come to an end, this trip will open up a whole a new world and the beginning of our futures. This blog is to keep you updated on where we are at with planning at the moment and hopefully (wifi allowing) while we are away.
